Rodborough Community Primary School

Curriculum

National Curriculum in England

The national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens.  It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said: and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement. The national curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the national curriculum specifications. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils' knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum. We follow the National Curriculum and its aims but also make enhancements to ensure our children receive personalised education which reflects the community in which we live. If you require more information about our curriculum, please contact the school office, who will be able to arrange a meeting with the relevant subject leader.

    Languages

    Languages

Learning new languages increases our appreciation of other people and their cultures, broadening our horizons. Learning a second language strengthens first language skills, enhancing reasoning, creative thinking and problem solving skills. At Rodborough we learn French as our main second language through fun activities. Sometimes our French puppet, Monsieur Claude comes along to chat with us; he can only speak French so we have to make sure we know what he is saying!

    Religious Education

    Religious Education

We are accepting of other people’s beliefs and we respect others. Our RE curriculum supports children to apply these values to our community and beyond. Our RE lessons give children valuable insights into the diverse beliefs and opinions held by people today. RE supports each child’s personal development as well as helping them to understand and articulate the spiritual, moral, social and cultural questions that each child will encounter in their lives. By addressing difficult questions, children learn to challenge stereotypes, promote cohesion and value tolerance and understanding whilst developing their own wellbeing and personal identity.

    SMSC

    SMSC

We believe that the values of our school underpin the SMSC development of all our children. We recognise that the personal development of pupils spiritually, morally, socially and culturally plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve. Therefore, we have carefully interwoven SMSC links across all subject areas and throughout school policies. These provide pupils with opportunities to explore and develop key skills in preparation for their life in diverse, modern Britain and across the globe.
